Today’s featured Professional Parent is Rhani Capobianco from Idea + Ink Graphic Design.  Based in a home studio in Bairnsdale, Victoria, Australia she is mother to Illy (3) and Lexi (1).   I was really pleased to receive an email from Rhani after she saw my Open Universities article – but with my move overseas it’s taken me a while to get around to getting this profile online.  So thanks for your patience Rhani and nice to have the chance to introduce you to the rest of the Professional Parents Network!

How long have you been in business?

Idea + Ink graphic design started in 2007 which provides businesses large and small with their marketing needs. Focusing on logo design, business cards, brochures, advertisements and websites. My business has a unique and innovative style, suited for today’s market.

How did you come to start your own business?

My business Idea + Ink Graphic Design is a boutique studio situated in Bairnsdale. I founded the company, as I have always been passionate about art and design.  After 11 years in the industry it was time to begin a family, my biggest thing was not to let go of my dream. I slowly put together my own website and was determine to make it grow. 6 years of having my own business, I can say its now successful. My hard work is starting to pay off.

What was life like “before children”?

After completing year 12, I moved to Melbourne to study. Next, I took up a position as a Graphic Designer at Printery. There I was able to gain industry experience through my time there. I was also was employed at a Newspaper House where my designs of newspaper advertisements and commercial printing collateral were recognised when I won multiple design awards.

Compared to life like “after children”?

Im a mumma to two very active girls and married to a social, hard-working man. I find that whether it be with my mind or my mouse – creating is soothing, liberating, and something I desire to share with everyone. I hope people find renewed inspiration from my business, and possibly want me to help them endure the creative process.

How many hours do you work a week?

20 hours a week

One of your greatest wishes for your children?

A quote: ‘Life is yours to do what you will, but only your efforts will fly you over the hill.’

Favourite resources?

Is your partner/family supportive of your business?

Absolutely, my whole family helps me out whenever they can.

Your most important skill?

The most important skill is passion, if you do not have it you will not enjoy it. I love to come upstairs and work, its really not working – its something I just love to do and always enjoy it. I never think of it as a chore, its me and everything about me!

Do your children go to school/daycare/alternate childminding?  How often?

I have my three year old in (3 hour) daycare once a week and my mum or mother in-law has the girls on a Thursday. The rest of my working hours are sleep periods or after bed (6pm)
